About project

Welcome to the site of the Project
"Social Integration of the Disabled People in the Privolzhky Federal Okrug"

Visiting our site you will be able to receive detailed information on the activity of the Project that is implemented in the framework of European Union-Russia Cooperation Programme.

The Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Privolzhsky Federal District is the Project Partner, and, on behalf of the European Community, a French-German consortium -BBI, ADECRI and SRH Learnlife- is implementing the Project.

The Project period lasts from July 2005 until December 2007. For reasons of sustainability this website is one with the website of the Resource Centre, which is based at the Nizhegorodskiy Oblastnoy Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled (NORCI).

Within the Project period various pilot projects are implemented in different regions of the PFO. These pilots together form a complex, multi-disciplinary approach to social rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. All pilots reflect best practice of social rehabilitation and integration in the Russian Federation and the European Union, and complement the existing traditional medical approach to rehabilitation.

The guiding principles and underlying values of the Project are a person-centred and rights-based approach towards rehabilitation, enabling to an autonomous and fulfilling life of a person with disabilities within the community.

The pilot projects include a PFO-wide acting Resource Centre in Nizhniy Novgorod (NORCI), University Training Modules for social rehabilitation experts in Nizhniy (URAO) and Cheboksary (RGSU), Early Rehabilitation Units in Nizhniy (regional hospital) and Saransk (republican hospital), a Model Rehabilitation Centre in Naberezhnye Chelny/Tatarstan, empowerment of NGOs in Perm, and a PFO-wide competition for social advertising (based in Samara).

Additionally, the Project provides recommendations for improved stakeholder coordination, based on analysis and best practice in Russia and the EU; and the necessary equipment for implementing the above-mentioned pilot projects.

By visiting this website, you may always learn about the latest events and progress in implementation of the pilot projects.

Any comments, proposals and questions are very welcome and may be directed to e-mail.
